Can someone tell me (or care to speculate) why a Bangladeshi passport holder needs an airport transit visa for changing planes in Frankfurt, or for that matter, anywhere in Europe? I’ve just had an awful experience of being harassed by Lufthansa (even though the German consulate says that I shouldn’t need an air transit visa.)

I know of an incident that a Bangladeshi with Czech residence permit was not allowed to change plane in Frankfurt towards Prag for a transit of only two hours, because he did not have transit visa. He was deported to his point of departure, Dhaka. He called the embassy for help and Embassy’s repeated requests to the authority were turned down citing rules of the land. Don’t have any idea about other European countries but UK requires transit visa.

Even BA requires transit visas through Heathrow if you don’t have a valid visa to re-enter the US (and you are leaving the US). What a pain!

I think that’s an American thing though. I’ve gone through Heathrow without transit visas just fine for the last few years.

I am not quite sure of Frankfurt, but I know that Schiphol at Amsterdam has implemented cumbersome transit visa requirements on Bangladeshi citizens as a penalty against Biman’s pending account payables. Perhaps we wronged the Germans in the same way?

When our “glorious” countrymen undertake shortsighted criminal/law breaking activities in whatever country they’re admitted into…it should come as no suprise that retribution and collective punishment will be swift and certain. These simply reinforce the already existing racist/supremacist tendencies of the West. Sad thing is innocent people like Saif have to suffer cause they’re considered guilty until proven innocent.

Hussain,
Are you serious about Biman?? Talk about polishing up our “bhaabmurti”!

Asif:
Like I said, I do not know of Frankfurt, but Biman owing KLM at Schiphol, I know as a cold hard fact.

I returned Dhaka from Norway via Frankfurt last Friday and nothing happened. The onward journey was also hassel-free.

Maybe it’s something to do with the airline bdfact.
